What is a scholarly or peer reviewed article, and how do I find one?

Answer

While not exact synonyms, when instructors ask you to find scholarly sources or peer reviewed articles they are generally asking you to find a particular kind of publication that scholars use to communicate their work with one another.

Other terms that can refer to particular kinds of scholarly articles include "literature review," "systematic review," "primary research," "research study," "original research," or "journal articles."

For RCC students, the most efficient way to find articles that meet your instructor's requirements and are not behind a paywall is to use our article databases

If aren't sure if the article you found meets your instructor's requirements or if you need research help please contact a librarian. You can also try our research tutorials.
