What is a DOI?

Answer

DOI stands for "digital object identifier." It is a series of numbers and letters that are permanently assigned to an article or book. It can look like a number: 10.1038/s41380021-01075-4. Or, a link: https://doi.org/10.1038/s41380-021-01075-4.

The DOI is usually found in the citation for the source (or sometimes in the header or footer of the document). Please note that not every article or book has a DOI assigned to it.

To find a DOI for a book or article, go to CrossRef to see if it is indexed there. Please contact a librarian if you need further assistance.
